Practice What You Preach

I’m sure we can all be guilty of being a hypocrite at times. We’re only human.  We make mistakes.  Some mistakes are bigger than others but that’s the beauty of life;  we live and we learn.

Some of the mistakes will go unnoticed. Some of them will be made under the glare of others.  And some, some of these mistakes will be made so publically you can’t help but draw attention to them and have a laugh in the process.

I take the piss out of celebrities. It’s something I’ve always done; I just can’t help myself.   If I see some piss taking worthy material then I’ll jump on it and ride it like a metaphorical horse.   I do it in jest.  There isn’t a need to ever get personal.

Just last week there were a couple of fashion faux pas (to me they were faux pas but to the editor of Vogue they could be huge fashion wins; who am I to judge? After all, I buy my clothes in LIDL).

First up we have the lovely Caroline Flack.

Personally, this dress she wore to the Glamour Awards last week reminds me of a toilet roll holder my dear Grandma had c.1990.  If you’re of similar age to me, you’ll know the ones I mean.

It’s not for me, but Caroline liked it and that’s fine.

Next up we have career fashionista Victoria Beckham.  Now, if she wants to rock the Lime & Orange Tic Tac look, who am I to critique?

We all have different tastes. We all like different things.  The world would be a very dull and uninspiring place if everyone wore the same; I can appreciate that.

Caroline Flack’s choice of dress grew criticism from someone else this weekend.  Someone a little (a lot) more well-known than myself.

Fiona Phillips.

Once the anchor of Breakfast TV (remember GMTV?), she now passes her opinion via a tabloid;  The Mirror.  Ms Phillips has a column in the Saturday edition of the newspaper.  I rarely read it myself, I prefer The Times (check me out eh?) but on a Saturday my other half buys The Mirror for his Barber shop and brings it home for my Nan.  Love her heart.

I had a peruse. A quick flick through if you will.  When something captured my attention.

It was a photo of Caroline Flack in said toilet roll holder dress.

“Oooooo, maybe Fiona Phillips’ Nan had the same toilet roll holder” I thought.

Not quite.

Not quite, indeed.

OK, Fiona, bit odd this one.  Caroline Flack is a 37 year old woman.  If she wants to wear something low cut, so what?  She can wear what the F she wants.  I doubt her Mum cares.   If you have to seek the approval of how much flesh is appropriate from your Mother at 37 years of age is that not a bit strange?

It must have been a slow news week for Fiona.  Perhaps she liked the aptly named headline “Flack from Mum” and just went with it.

I tweeted my opinion. As only I can.   Besides, I happen to think Caroline Flack’s boobs looked quite comfortable.  They didn’t look like they were making a bid for freedom in the toilet roll holder dress.

Twitter is a revolutionary tool you see.  Because it connects you to so many people who are always happy to join in the conversation.  You can learn a lot through Twitter.  I certainly have.

Oh hi, Fiona Phillips.  I hope you’re keeping warm on that moral high ground of yours.

And I trust you sought Mother’s approval before heading out to the TV Quick Awards?  Because call me old fashioned but I wonder what Mum thought of this?

    You’re funny. I don’t give a hoot about celebrities or their boobs.#MMBC

  3. Siobhan

Great read as always – one days celebs will catch onto the fact that the internet has a looonnnnggg memory! #TriumphantTales

  4. CAN NOT UNSEE!!! That tictac photo is spot on though! Im all about legs out or tits out, never both, but come on miss flack has more revealing photos out there than that outfit! Miss Phillips needs to do her research hahah!
Thanks for linking up to #TriumphantTales. I hope to see you back next week lovely!

  5. Oh my grandma had a toilet roll holder like this (but a pale pink colour instead). I bet she slipped merrily off her moral high ground after this tweet! #triumphanttales

  6. Lisa

I think Fiona is just jealous because Caroline Flack’s got better boobs #TriumphantTales x

  7. Haha, Brilliant. I think a lot of our nan’s had toilet roll holders like that! Love that Caroline Flack replied to you.
    #TriumphantTales

  8. I don’t know who this is but she looks pretty good to me. i don’t know why, but its always kind of cool to get these responses. I keep tweeting at Donald Trump but so far he seems to be ignoring me #triumphanttales

  9. Like, I know she’s written a book and had a fling with someone much younger….but who is Caroline Flack??? #BrilliantBlogPosts

  10. Briony

I hadn’t even noticed her boobs, but then I was being dazzled by the glare of Victoria’s tic tac outfit. Brilliant. #coolmumclub

  11. Donna

If I had those boobs they’d be out all the time. And my mum wouldn’t care at all! #coolmumclub

  12. Brilliant blog post, bit of tongue in cheek never hurt anyone….My gran still has a toilet roll holder like that…it scares me!

  13. This made me laugh so much. I do comment with my OH on celebs all the time and forget that they too are just people but as it seems they do it to each other too! Well played on Twitter and here’s to life being short and us wearing what we want X #brilliantblogposts

  14. Sadie

Haha, amazing! And Fiona’s boobs look far more likely to make a bid for freedom than Caroline’s did…
    #coolmumclub

  15. Helen

Haha, you always hit the nail on the head! So funny. #coolmumclub

  16. Claire

Oh man, hypocrisy indeed! XD Reminds me of the time my dad tried to ‘tell me off’ for swearing on facebook (i was 30 at the time), whe nthe last time i’d seen him he’d gone on and on about how funny ‘Grimsby’ is. A film that is the f word every other word! umm what? haha xx #fortheloveofblog

  17. MMT

Rach I know I speak for loads of us when I say we totally ‘get’ your sense of humour on twitter…good for you for calling out old FB and a massive high five for supporting Love Islands host with the most (can you get her to tweet us a series secret?!)

Wicked post – loved it. Thanks for linking up to #coolmumclub hun

  18. Tubbs

VB’s son posted a picture of that outfit next to a carrot pen on Instagram. Which made me laugh. (It was in Metro, which is why I know about it). Brilliant post and a lovely comment from Caroline too 🙂

  19. Emma

I love your twitter chats! You need a book deal or twitter needs to be paying you. Brilliant. Fiona, shame on you! Cleary came up the headline and then tried to shoehorn an article round it. #FridayFrolics

  20. Emily

Haha, she replied to you! That’s brilliant! I love your comparison of Vic to the pack of tic tags! Thanks for linking up to #ThatFridayLinky

  21. Gosh, haven’t heard from Fiona Phillips in ages! Love your riposte! Good one! #fortheloveofBLOG

  22. Hi Rcah, that is funny! Being partial to taking part in a bit of celebrity ribbing myself I do appreciate your observation. I’m never going to be able to buy a packet of tictacs and not think of old VB. Luckily I can’t remember the last time I saw a toilet roll holder done out like a doll (my Granny had one, but that was years, & years ago!). Fiona Phillips say more about her and her relationship with her Mum than it does about Caroline Flack that’s for sure!

Thank you for linking up with the #MMBC.

I love your no nonsense approach say it as it is briilant and fleck replied win win great read Rach Thanks for linking to the #THAT FRIDAY LINKY come back next week please

  24. That comparison to the toilet paper roll holder is sheer brilliance! How on earth did you even find a picture of one! OMG! Too funny! And the tweet response, FAB! #FridayFrolics xoxo

  25. Brilliant! ! Yes the dress was a bit loo roll holder ish but the boobs looked fine to me, and surely her choice with what she does with them! Always found Fiona Philips sneery! Well done you!! Thank you for sharing with #fortheloveofBLOG

  26. Rebecca

This is awesome! I love it ? Made me giggle x

    Mwah x

  27. Brilliant! I cannot believe she replied to your tweet. It makes it even funnier. I have to be honest not a fan of showing too much skin but then again each to their own. Thank you for sharing with #StayClassyMama

  28. Haha! Hilarious! As an aside, I loved that the person who publicly trolled Victoria for her outfit you showed here was one of her sons (Romeo, I think). Also I once tweeted a joke about one of the CBeebies presenters and got a response from the CBeebies presenter in question (and I hadn’t tagged her or anything). At least I know she has a sense of humour. Thanks so much for joining us for #FridayFrolics

  29. Brilliant! It’s always fun to catch out celebrities who are being hypocrites. 🙂
    Thanks for linking to #pocolo

  30. Finn

Excellent. What passes for fashion seems utterly bizarre to me a lot of the time, but then I am a middle-aged man who has never seen clothes as a priority! But I do throw my jeans away when they get ripped rather than buying them like that. #Brilliant

  31. It’s one thing to jest about someone’s outfit in the name of fun, quite another to shame them for showing their body! Thank you for saying something to the hypocrite who showed more boob in her black dress than the person she was criticizing. #GlobalBlogging

  32. oh my gosh this is so funny, I remember those toilet roll holders, her boobs look great to me. So funny you caught her out on this one lol Practice What You Preach Absolutely #GlobalBlogging

  33. This made me laugh! Victoria Beckham probably spent ages working on her outfit but she does, indeed look like a tic tac! Lol and yes to the power of Twitter! Cool that you got a reply too. Funny PST. #globalblogging

  34. Yes, hypocrisy is rife in that business. Thank goodness we have you to show them the error of their ways. Love that she acknowledged it on Twitter, but I bet Fiona blocked you for hating women ???

  35. Haha. I love the tic-tac outfit!
I feel like fashion rules have pretty much gone out the window that this point – if you can rock it…go ahead and rock it. 🙂

    Thanks for sharing #globalblogging

  36. I don’t know these people apart from Mrs Beckham, but the parallels were really funny. #globalblogging

  37. Tracey

Those newspaper columnists are the worst, it reminds me of when Katie Hopkins was slamming people for having children named after places while she has a daughter named India! #globalblogging

  38. Lucy

Whoa, is Caroline Flack 37?! I always thought she was younger than me! She looks great, although I agree, I don’t like that dress at all, and my nan was also a massive fan of those toilet roll cosy things!!! Fiona Phillips really should’ve reconsidered that statement-as well as the hypocrisy, it cringingly makes her sound really old as well…! High fives for Caroline replying to your tweet!!
    #bigpinklink

  39. Who cares what your mom thinks at 37? My mom hated what I wore at 16 and she hates what I wear now at 41 #globalblogging

  40. naomi

ugh I hate how her comment is about breasts, too! so what! her breasts look great!! #globalblogging

  41. bloody love that the Flack replied to you, and the tic tac thing with Victoria Beckham – spot on! I used to love those tic tacs mind #bigpinklink

  42. Loved this even more the second time round. Silly Fiona Phillips – obvs a very slow news day as you say. She must have forgotten her youthful days when her boobs were out and about for all to see and nowt wrong with that, just shame she has to cast judgement on others these days. #GlobalBlogging

  43. Eoin

Haha, hypocrisy at its finest. Good on ya for calling her out on it, Rach.
    #globalblogging

  44. Brilliant! People in glass houses and all that. I bet that made Caroline Flack’s day. What an odd comment to make, its as though she was talking about a 16 year old girl!
    #GlobalBlogging

  45. Alan (@Alchows)

The comparison photos – just brilliant!
Love your sense of humour Rach , glad I came across you on Twitter , certainly make me smile & lol ??
Must be due a new one soon I hope , keep up the good work .

  46. The loo roll holder! Ba ha genius! I’ve no idea who either woman as I’m out of the UK celebrity culture but yes, Fiona Philipps clearly has amnesia or is just a hypocrite (with an odd relationship with her mum at this age). And frankly, she has boobs that are no match for the Flack woman. #BigPinkLink

  47. This is brilliant and really made me laugh! I’m sure my nan has still got one of those toilet roll holders in her bathroom! #MondayStumble

  48. Emma

Flack is flipping fantastic! I can’t believe that she replied to you too. I’m jealous #FridayFrolics
